5th "Hospice is life, too" educational campaign
19.02.2009
Over 100 hospices and palliative care units from Poland took part in the 5th nationwide “Hospice is Life, too” campaign organised by Hospice Foundation. On October 11th 2008 (Hospice and Palliative Care World Day) the hospices’ employees and volunteers organised a series of events called: “Let’s play for hospice”. These included concerts, sports events, happenings and meetings in hospices and schools.
Each year the autumn educational hospice campaigns focus on different facets of hospice and palliative care, e.g. bereavement, communication, volunteering. This time the campaign’s theme was “I like to help” and it promoted voluntary service, especially among young people.

The campaign had good media coverage as during its most intense autumn months (October and November) nationwide and regional media dedicated almost 1000 articles and broadcasts to the topic of palliative care and hospice volunteering. Moreover, thousands of posters and many more fliers promoting hospice volunteering were distributed throughout the country. The posters presented a group of masked people in grey T-shirts with writings such as “I am too young”, “What can I do?”, “It’s too hard”, “I’m too sensitive” contrasted with smiling volunteers in yellow T-shirts and a patient attracting a young man with an “I’ll help” T-shirt.
The feedback from the hospices showed increasing number of volunteers and successful charity collections that accompanied this campaign.
