IV educational campaign about hospice and palliative care in Poland

In 1983 during the Solidarity and Marshal Law in Gdansk the first home care hospice in Poland was created. This experience had helped to establish other hospices in Poland, based on the voluntary work of medical staff and volunteers. Although the Hospice Movement in Poland today counts around 200 different programs, there is still a lot to do in that regard in the society.

The Third Campaign for hospices has formally come to the end on 31th March 2007 in Warsaw. About 200 hospices representatives took part in Campaign and institutions interested in new project regarding the volunteer work development met at the Biology Department of University of Warsaw.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
On 11 February 2007, when the Church keeps the liturgical memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes, the Fifteenth World Day of the Sick will be celebrated in Seoul, Korea. A number of meetings, conferences, pastoral gatherings and liturgical celebrations will take place with representatives of the Church in Korea, health care personnel, the sick and their families.

The 3rd Nationwide Campaign in the TVP

Last Sunday, Channel 1 of the Polish Television TVP devoted its air time to the 3rd Nationwide Campaign "Hospicjum to też Życie" (“Hospice is Life, too”) – therapists, founders of support groups for people in mourning, as well as organizers of the campaign and representatives of the Hospice Foundation visited the studio.

The death of a loved one is the utmost loss and a painful experience. No wonder that we react to it most intensely. We face despair, helplessness, anger, powerlessness, the sense of guilt and ... questions about the meaning of life. This is a very hard time. It is most important then that there be someone to listen to us, someone who will not criticize or give superficial advice. At moments like these we badly need the help and mere presence of friendly, sympathetic people.
